Goju Ryu Karate – Session 3
For 26th January’s class we were put into pairs and did a rotation of the same set of drills twice, including things such as…
- Kicking towards the training partner , switching the back leg after each kick.
- Light kicks towards each partners solar plexas
- Knee Strikes with each leg on a pad
- Kicking pads with front kicks from each leg
- Stretching the partners legs while one partner is leaning against the wall
At the end of the class we practised a drill that covered footwork and techniques from the first form in Goju Ryu karate.

Goju Ryu Karate – Session 2
My 2nd class was actually on the 12th and i forgot to wrote a post about it. So my recollection will be difficult now; i was away for week of the 16th. Essentially the class came down to the following:
Body Conditioning; such as push ups and sit ups were prominantly done. we did two lines, with each line facing one another and each side took turns to do the exercises; then the otherwise would do their 10 or 20 of the exercise and this was repeated a few times.
Various combinations of strikes were practised , one in particular started with us doing a side step with a upper block, then turning that block into a downward strike; followed by a regular punch, which was then followed by a step forward with the left leg, bringing in an elbow strike towards the face area.

Goju Ryu Karate – Session 1
Finally got around to trying out Goju Ryu Karate – It was fantastic first experience all round.
Excellent warm ups for the first half an hour or so. The hardest aspect overall for me personally was all the various types of kicks, not something i’ve done a great deal of in the past; which was Wing Chun and White Crane.
Since it was their first class returning in the new year much of the focus was around the basics.
We did some basic Udekitae conditioning on our arms mainly (For those who don’t know, basically bashing our arms into eachother)
Some basic footwork and stance work…
Some blocking and punching techniques were shown to me in further depth by one of the Senseis in the class.
I’ll expand this post further tomorrow – But i shall continue learning the style next week onwards and keep you all posted 🙂
